Awards Nomination Process

Candidates for both the Union Square Award and the Union Square Arts Award are identified through a nominations process. Nominations are reviewed throughout the year and may be submitted by anyone familiar with the organization’s contributions and accomplishments. Submissions must describe the nominee’s work and outline why the organization should be considered for an Award. Nominations may be made online, by mail or fax.

All nominations are reviewed as they are received throughout the year. Award decisions are made by the Union Square Awards selection panel each fall. Recipients are informed by phone and announced to the public through this site.

Prospective candidates for the Union Square Award are emerging grassroots organizations working in New York City with limited resources whose work falls into one of the following areas: homelessness and hunger; HIV/AIDS prevention, education and treatment; youth leadership and organizing; family and community development; economic self-sufficiency and conflict resolution.

Prospective candidates for the Union Square Arts Award are emerging arts organizations working in New York City’s low-income communities providing ongoing, innovative and creative programs to youth and families. All artistic disciplines may be nominated.
