Since 1998, the Union Square Awards has recognized grassroots activists dedicated
to social justice. To strengthen organizational capacity, the program offers
its awardees and grantees technical assistance support and workshops on topics
such as fundraising, fiscal management, communications and other activities
toward long-term sustainability. It also offers opportunities for additional
funding in the form of general operating support, project and mini grants.
Information and guidelines are mailed directly to eligible grantee organizations.

GENERAL OPERATING SUPPORT GRANTS
The general operating support grants program was launched in 2005 to provide recipients with the opportunity to apply for an additional year of unrestricted support following the Union Square Award. Grants are intended to help organizations build capacity to sustain their ongoing work.
Mini Grants
Launched in 2005, the Union Square Awards’ mini grants program assists
grantees with specific short-term projects that build organizational capacity
and must be linked to ongoing work. Requests must have clear parameters and objectives.
Mini-grants range up to $2,000.
